At Outsourcify, Symfony is our primary PHP framework for serious custom web applications — CRMs, B2B platforms, booking systems, inventory and factory workflows, insurance tools, and API backends that power mobile and SPA frontends.

We have used Symfony since its early versions and deliver on the current stable line (Symfony 7.x as of 2025), with a team that also works comfortably with Laravel when a project fits that ecosystem better.

Why Symfony for business applications

When a project needs several weeks or months of engineering with multiple developers, Symfony’s architecture pays off:

• Modular components — security, forms, routing, console, messenger, and more can be used as a full framework or piecemeal
• Team-friendly structure — clear conventions help several developers collaborate without turning the codebase into a maze

Symfony components also underpin other systems (including parts of Laravel, Drupal, and Magento), which is a useful signal for longevity.

Symfony vs Laravel (how we choose)

Both are excellent PHP frameworks. In short:

• Symfony — structure, modularity, enterprise control; typical for complex domains, long-lived products, multi-dev teams
• Laravel — speed of scaffolding and approachable DX; typical for smaller apps, rapid MVPs, Laravel-centric teams
• Our stance — Symfony is our default for heavy custom apps; we use Laravel when it is clearly the better fit

Because Laravel reuses many Symfony components, our PHP team moves between them when needed. The product decision is about risk, scale, and team shape — not ideology.

Engineering note: Ajax/API posts with Symfony

Interactive frontends (Vue/React) often send JSON via libraries like axios rather than classic form posts. A recurring footgun is content-type handling: the payload arrives as JSON, while a controller written for form-encoded data expects a different request shape.

In Symfony we treat these as first-class API endpoints: explicit routes, request DTO/validation, CSRF strategy appropriate to cookie/token auth, and clear JSON responses. That keeps cart actions, wizards, and partial updates reliable whether the client is Vue, React, or a mobile app.
