Symfony
A PHP framework and reusable component set for maintainable APIs, web applications, and long-lived business systems.
Symfony is a PHP web application framework and a set of reusable PHP components/libraries which we use as a foundation to custom web applications.
At Outsourcify, Symfony is our primary PHP framework for serious custom web applications — CRMs, B2B platforms, booking systems, inventory and factory workflows, insurance tools, and API backends that power mobile and SPA frontends.
We have used Symfony since its early versions and deliver on the current stable line (Symfony 7.x as of 2025), with a team that also works comfortably with Laravel when a project fits that ecosystem better.

Why Symfony for business applications
When a project needs several weeks or months of engineering with multiple developers, Symfony’s architecture pays off:
- Modular components — security, forms, routing, console, messenger, and more can be used as a full framework or piecemeal
- Team-friendly structure — clear conventions help several developers collaborate without turning the codebase into a maze
- Long-term maintainability — mature upgrade paths and a large ecosystem of packages (“bundles”)
- Interoperability — Doctrine ORM, API Platform, JWT auth, file uploads, image processing, and standards-based PHP practices
- Security defaults — authentication, CSRF protection, validation, and well-tested patterns for enterprise apps
Symfony components also underpin other systems (including parts of Laravel, Drupal, and Magento), which is a useful signal for longevity.
Symfony vs Laravel (how we choose)
Both are excellent PHP frameworks. In short:
- Symfony — structure, modularity, enterprise control; typical for complex domains, long-lived products, multi-dev teams
- Laravel — speed of scaffolding and approachable DX; typical for smaller apps, rapid MVPs, Laravel-centric teams
- Our stance — Symfony is our default for heavy custom apps; we use Laravel when it is clearly the better fit
Because Laravel reuses many Symfony components, our PHP team moves between them when needed. The product decision is about risk, scale, and team shape — not ideology.
What we build with Symfony
Examples from our delivery history:
- Travel and booking platforms
- Real-estate CRM and listings
- B2B marketplaces and order systems
- Inventory / production management
- Insurance and comparison tools
- REST/GraphQL APIs for mobile apps and Vue/React frontends
- Headless backends paired with modern JS UIs
See related case studies under web applications and our portfolio.
Stack we often propose: Symfony + Vue
A common Outsourcify architecture:
- Symfony — domain logic, auth, admin, APIs, integrations
- Vue.js / Nuxt — interactive UI where the browser needs richness
- MySQL/PostgreSQL — relational data when the domain is structured
- Optional — Sylius for Symfony-native e-commerce, API Platform for rapid APIs
That split keeps the backend robust while giving users modern front-end UX.
Ecosystem libraries we reuse
From real projects we repeatedly use packages such as:
- API Platform — REST/GraphQL APIs from entities
- Lexik JWT — token auth for mobile and SPA clients
- VichUploader / LiipImagine — uploads and image variants
- Sylius — Symfony-based commerce when custom e-commerce depth is required
- Alice — fixtures for realistic development data
Engineering note: Ajax/API posts with Symfony
Interactive frontends (Vue/React) often send JSON via libraries like axios rather than classic form posts. A recurring footgun is content-type handling: the payload arrives as JSON, while a controller written for form-encoded data expects a different request shape.
In Symfony we treat these as first-class API endpoints: explicit routes, request DTO/validation, CSRF strategy appropriate to cookie/token auth, and clear JSON responses. That keeps cart actions, wizards, and partial updates reliable whether the client is Vue, React, or a mobile app.
Why teams hire us for Symfony
- 15+ years of continuous Symfony use (agency + founding engineers)
- Developers who understand full web delivery (UX, UI, DevOps), not only framework syntax
- Documented, upgradeable codebases aimed at multi-year product life
- Ability to combine Symfony backends with Astro, Vue, Flutter, and WordPress where each tool fits

Building web apps of any kind with Symfony
A web framework is a collection of libraries which helps to develop a web application. Symfony is an open-source framework for the PHP programming language created in 2005 that evolved until today (Symfony 4 was released in 2018). It allows to rapidly start a modern web application by providing a set of reusable PHP components to handle security, authentication of users, routing, templating, forms amongs other. It also includes other libraries developed by the same team, the Twig templating engine and the Doctrine ORM (Object Relational Mapper). The Symfony components can actually be used in any PHP application, independently from the framework, and are at the basis of another PHP framework, Laravel, as well as Content Management Systems (CMS) like Drupal or Magento. Outsourcify has a team of experts in the Symfony PHP framework to help you build a fully featured web application. We have years of experience building web apps in domains such as : CRM, Insurance, Real Estate, B2B Ecommerce, Human Resources, Stock management, Factory Workflow Management, Analytics, Trading and finance, Travel Agency management.

Multiple possibilities in term of custom Features with Symfony
- Complex relational databases
- Custom web services
- Workflow management
- Media management: photos, sounds and videos
- Email sending and templating
- Chat and internal communications
- Integrations with third party systems and APIs

Why Symfony?
It is one of the leading professional PHP framework, one of the most used worldwide and the one that is the most recommended for professional projects. Symfony is used by many large companies for web application development, it includes libraries for optimal authentication and security management, it offers upgradability and maintainability, along-term support by a worldwide active team and finally it’s an open source technology, free to use and deploy.
At Outsourcify, we are experts in Symfony, using it since version 1 was created 10 years ago, we have created a wide range of websites with the Symfony framework and will be happy to help you benefit from our experience and expertise. Our team always uses the latest version of the framework.

Our usual proposed stack - Symfony + Vue.JS
The technical solution we recommend to create web applications is to develop a custom web application built with the Symfony PHP framework that will offer exactly the features needed while allowing a smooth integration with third party systems system and protecting the website against security threats.
We often provide a single web application with 2 parts, 1) a front-end public informative website, 2) a back-end interactive admin panel (CMS) requiring administrator authentication.
We also often associate Symfony which is a server side technology with Vue.JS, one of the main Javascript frameworks and will be used to add some interactivity and dynamic data handling on the front-end (in the browser). It helps creating rich modern web applications with user friendly interfaces.
