Navigating Challenges: From Pattaya’s Beaches to Bangkok’s Hustle
Starting a business is always filled with challenges, but for Outsourcify, some of our earliest hurdles came from an unexpected source: our initial location. Despite the idyllic seaside setting in Jomtien beach (not technically Pattaya , it’s a much calmer beach a few kilometers south), our first significant challenge turned out to be recruiting qualified technical talent.
The Unexpected Challenge of Recruitment
When creating Outsourcify, it was just two web developers—myself and my partner, Kwanruedee. As our workload increased rapidly with new local and international clients, it became essential to expand our team. We moved in to a larger 2-bedrooms condo — one set for the office — with sea views, fresh sea breezes and just a few minutes walk to the beach. However, we soon encountered an unexpected issue: few candidates responded to our job postings.
Despite the appealing living conditions—our spacious beachfront apartment and the relaxed (and cheap) lifestyle—Pattaya’s reputation complicated our recruitment efforts. In Thailand, particularly more than 10 years ago, Pattaya was predominantly seen as a nightlife and party city, which didn’t align with the professional image we wanted to project as a technology-driven company.
Furthermore, our limited budget restricted us to recruiting fresh graduates or junior developers, many of whom hesitated to relocate to Pattaya. Concerns about family approval and the perception of working in such a city became substantial hurdles.

Moving from Beach Life to Bangkok
Realizing our location was a significant obstacle, we made the decision to relocate to Bangkok. Leaving behind our lifestyle in Jomtien, we temporarily moved into a serviced apartment in central Bangkok. Remarkably, within just two weeks, we had found a nice centrally located 3 bedrooms condo (2 rooms planned as office) and successfully recruited our first two employees.
Settling into a new place in Sukhumvit soi 16 near Asoke intersection, a bustling area known for business and skyscrapers, significantly shifted our trajectory. Suddenly, Outsourcify was more attractive to prospective employees. This strategic move opened doors, allowing us to scale quickly by attracting and retaining talented individuals crucial to our growth.

How Location Impacted Our Business
Moving to Bangkok not only resolved our recruitment issues but also positioned Outsourcify better in the Thai and international business community. Our credibility as a professional web agency improved significantly, attracting larger, more diverse projects and opportunities.
Additionally, being based in Bangkok facilitated more face-to-face interactions with clients, strengthening relationships and trust. It also allowed our team to participate actively in Bangkok’s vibrant tech community, attending events, workshops, and conferences, further elevating our industry presence.

Lessons Learned: Location Matters—But So Does Adaptability
Our early struggles in Pattaya taught us that place isn’t just about scenery—it’s about talent, perception, and connectivity. Moving to Bangkok was a pivotal decision, but the past few years have added a new layer to this lesson: how we work matters just as much as where.
The Post-COVID Shift: Remote Work’s Double-Edged Sword
The pandemic forced a global experiment in remote work, and like many companies, we adapted. Today, we offer two remote days per week—a compromise between flexibility and the irreplaceable value of in-person collaboration. But we’ve held firm on one principle: the office isn’t optional. Here’s why:
- Company Culture Can’t Be Avoided
Outsourcify was built on human relationships. Training interns, mentoring juniors, or solving complex problems as a team requires spontaneous conversations, shared energy, and the kind of trust that forms over coffee breaks or whiteboard sessions. Remote onboarding, as we learned during lockdowns, risks leaving new hires adrift without the nuance of face-to-face guidance. - Service Businesses Thrive on Presence
As a service-driven company, our greatest asset is our team’s cohesion. Code reviews, client workshops, and creative brainstorming lose depth when fragmented across screens. The office acts as a gravitational center—where collaboration isn’t scheduled, but continuous. - Independence ≠ Isolation
While remote work suits self-starters, we’ve observed that the best teams aren’t just collections of independent individuals—they’re ecosystems where skills cross-pollinate. The office fosters this naturally: a junior developer overhears a solution to a problem they haven’t encountered yet; a designer picks up on a client’s unspoken need during a casual chat. These micro-interactions compound into our competitive edge.
The Bangkok Advantage, Reaffirmed
Bangkok’s density of talent and infrastructure made hybrid work viable without sacrificing our core values. We offer 2 days work from home to our employees. Unlike fully remote companies, we leverage:
- Company as a community: Meetups and team work thrive on physical presence.
- Hybrid work-life balance: Employees enjoy the city’s central amenities without having a couple of days working from home avoiding the commute times.
- Client trust: Visiting partners see a cohesive team, not disembodied voices on Slack.
Our experience highlighted the importance of location in business, particularly in tech recruitment and company perception. It was a vital lesson about balancing lifestyle preferences with business needs, showing that sometimes significant changes are necessary to realize broader business goals.
Reflecting on these early challenges, we recognize how this crucial relocation shaped the future success of Outsourcify, enabling us to grow sustainably and establish a strong, reputable presence in Thailand’s dynamic tech industry.
In the next article, we’ll explore how Outsourcify evolved in terms of services, technology, and strategy over the past decade, laying the foundation for our continued growth and success.
