The Outsourcify Story #1: Lessons from a decade in Web Development

Documenting Our Journey at Outsourcify

Outsourcify began with two people working together on web projects. More than a decade later, we are a Bangkok agency of 34 people. This series explains what happened between those two points: why we started in Thailand, what went wrong, how our work changed and what we want to keep as the company grows.

Why This Series?

We often tell clients and new team members the same stories: how the company began, why we left Jomtien for Bangkok and how our services grew beyond PHP and WordPress. Writing them down felt overdue. They may be useful to other agency owners, but they should also give prospective clients a more honest view of who they would be working with. And yes, publishing them may help people find us through search too.

About Outsourcify: A Brief Overview

Outsourcify started with Kwan and me working together on projects and hiring one person at a time as the workload grew. We had to learn sales, accounting, HR and the paperwork involved in running a company in Thailand. In my case, that also meant dealing with a work permit and visa. Most of our early work came from clients and agency partners in Europe and Australia.

Our first company was called Eklektik Web, a name meant to reflect a creative approach using different styles and technologies. We began with PHP web applications and WordPress websites. We later added UX and UI design, mobile applications, discovery workshops and more complex custom software.

In 2013, we applied for certification from Thailand’s Board of Investment (BOI). The application required a new legal entity, which became Outsourcify. We moved the existing team and services into it. BOI status provided tax incentives and made it easier to employ international specialists, but more importantly it committed us to a long-term business plan in Thailand.

The name Outsourcify came from our original model: helping overseas agencies outsource web development to a stable team in Bangkok. We still work as a white-label partner, but today most projects come directly from companies that need us to design and build a web or mobile product.

By early 2025, the team had grown to 35 people. Many client relationships have lasted for years. That continuity, on both sides of a project, is one of the things we value most.

Meet the Founders

I’m Benoit Schneider, 44, Outsourcify’s Technical Director and co-founder. Originally from France, my background is in software engineering. I graduated 20 years ago, then spent several years working in Paris as a web developer before moving to Thailand in 2010. My journey in Thailand began with freelancing, until we created the company that would evolve into what Outsourcify is today.

My co-founder and partner, Kwanruedee, is Outsourcify’s Managing Director and the main force behind the business. After earning a software engineering degree from Mae Fah Luang University in Chiang Rai, she spent four years in Brisbane studying English, business and marketing. She has shaped the company culture, managed our local relationships and kept the business moving while I concentrated on technology. She’s the boss.

What to Expect from This Series

The next seven articles cover our decision to build the agency in Thailand, the move to Bangkok, changes in our services and technology, recruitment, company culture and our plans for the next decade. I will include the decisions that worked and the ones that did not.

All articles will be featured under the Outsourcify Story category on our blog.

Thank you for being part of our journey!

In the next article, we’ll dive into our beginnings and why we chose Thailand and Bangkok for our web agency.

Addendum: In March 2025, OpenAI’s ChatGPT introduced an image generation feature that allows users to transform their photos into artwork resembling Studio Ghibli’s distinctive style. It’s a very famous Japanese animation studio that made anime movies such as “My Neighbor Totoro” and “Princess Mononoke”. This led to a viral trend on social media, with numerous users sharing AI-generated Ghibli-style images. All photos in this series are real photographs that have been processed to achieve that aesthetic.
